Markets are a way of life for the French and you have some great ones nearby to choose from. The daily markets in Jarnac, Cognac & Angoulême are open each morning until 1pm except Mondays and Wednesdays. Apart from the food sellers, they also offer little cafes to enjoy that morning coffee and croissant!
Another treasure we have is the marché de Tambourinour, just outside of Jarnac. This is a daily fruit and veg market (Summer) and Friday and Saturday in Winter. Every Friday afternoon it is also host to a superb Farmers market! A visit is a MUST! A highlight for us is the fantastic duck stall - a speciality of South West France.
In terms of eating out, you are spoilt for choice. Below are a just a few of our local favourites but we have a much longer list for you on your arrival and we are happy to make reservations for you. We also have a great open air bar & restaurants list for you to enjoy during the warmer months.
L’alambic - Jarnac
Our local café/restaurant in the main square of Jarnac at which you can enjoy a gorgeous menu du jour or à la carte such as the amazing seafood salad. An unbeatable menu du jour - 3 courses for under 20,00 euros! Husband and wife team - Christine and Eric are just the best!
This is also a great place at which you can enjoy the various French festivals such as the fête de la musique, le 14 juillet, as it organises live music as well as amazing dinners. Or, simply watch the world go by with a glass of wine or two!
L’auberge des fins bois - Rouillac
Offering something a little different, we recommend L’auberge des fins bois in the village of Vibrac, under 20 mins drive from 1854 Chassors. With a pleasant back terrace for those summer days, enjoy a choice of various menus, all with a franco/portugese influence. Amongst the many choices, the seafood dishes are amazing.
Comptoir 17 - Cognac
Set on the banks of the river Charente in central Cognac, this a great restaurant all year round with a lovely interior. A large menu catering to all tastes including vegetarian is available
It has a fantastic big terrace upon which to enjoy those lovely Summer nights.
L’insolite - Saintes
Wow what a find !!This is a boutique restaurant, located in the heart of Saintes. Originally recommended by a previous guest, who himself is an artisan boulanger, this restaurant is must for food lovers! With a stylish interior and original menu, let your taste buds be swept away. Kevin judged this to be the best chocolate dessert since we have been in France!
Graines et Garenne - Châteuneuf sur Charente
WOW what a delight! Only 20 mins drive from 1854 Chassors, this is truly a dining experience. Great choice with either the menu du jour or à la carte.

Le Mas Charentais - Saint Simeux
Along with its scrumptious menu full of local produce, this restaurant simply has the best panoramic terrasse in all of Charente! Family run with Sylvie at front of house, enjoy a lovely lunch or evening meals.
Another highlight is live music at the weekend through the Summer season.
